For our client, a world-class copper producer based in Central Africa, we are seeking a highly skilled Senior Superintendent, Tax. This is a senior leadership role responsible for managing the company’s entire taxation portfolio.
About the Role:
The Tax Senior Superintendent will be the custodian of a compliant taxation system and framework for a major mining operation. Reporting to the CFO this role involves leading a team of specialists to manage all regulatory tax requirements, financial accounting, monitoring, and reporting systems. The successful candidate will ensure full compliance with all national taxation policies and will act as the key liaison with government tax authorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Taxation department, setting the strategic direction and embedding robust policies, standards, and governance processes.
- Oversee all day-to-day tax operations, including tax planning, compliance, and the timely completion of all declarations and returns (Corporate Income Tax, VAT, Payroll, Customs, etc.).
- Act as the primary point of contact for national tax authorities, coordinating and managing all tax inspections, audits, and dispute resolutions.
- Provide expert advice to executive management on the tax implications of strategic decisions, financial forecasts, and changing legislation.
- Ensure the accurate translation of financial data between IFRS and regional accounting standards (e.g., OHADA).
- Drive continuous improvement by leveraging technology to automate, integrate, and digitise the tax function.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the tax team, implementing performance management and succession planning to build a high-performing division.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a Finance-related field with a specialisation in Taxation.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, with a proven track record of leading a tax division, preferably within the Central Africa region.
- Experience within the mining industry is highly advantageous.
- Advanced knowledge of national tax legislation, IFRS, and regional accounting standards is essential.
- Direct experience in dealing with national taxation authorities on inspections and dispute resolution.
- Proficiency with mine financial systems (e.g., JDE) and advanced MS Office skills.
- Fluency in both French and English is essential.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence, negotiate, and manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships.
