For our client, a world-class copper producer based in Central Africa, we are seeking an exceptional Multi-Site General Manager. This is a premier, C-suite level appointment to lead one of the world’s largest and most significant mining operations.
About the Role:
Reporting directly to the CEO/COO, the Executive Head of Mining will set the strategic direction and hold full accountability for the entire mining value chain. This role is responsible for leading a large senior management team to deliver world-class production targets, drive operational excellence, and create long-term shareholder value. The position requires a transformational leader capable of steering a complex, large-scale underground mining division to achieve its full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set the strategic direction and long-term vision for the entire mining division in alignment with the company’s corporate objectives.
- Lead the senior management team to deliver world-class production targets safely, sustainably, and cost-effectively.
- Drive the development and implementation of global best practices across all underground mining and technical training functions.
- Oversee the development of life-of-mine plans, ensuring alignment with long-term business objectives and shareholder value.
- Manage the division’s financial performance, including the development and control of multi-million-dollar CAPEX and OPEX budgets.
- Champion a Zero Harm culture, leading the HSEQ strategy and ensuring absolute compliance with all statutory and corporate governance standards.
- Manage critical relationships with government officials, community leaders, and joint venture stakeholders to maintain the company’s social license to operate.
- Lead key transformation initiatives, including automation and cultural integration, to position the operation for future success.
Requirements:
- A degree in Mining Engineering is essential; a postgraduate business qualification is highly desirable.
- A Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency is required.
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in the mining industry, with at least 3-5 years in an executive role with full P&L accountability for a large-scale mine.
- Proven experience serving on an executive committee for a major mining company.
- Extensive technical and operational knowledge of large-scale, highly mechanised underground mining methods.
- Demonstrated strategic planning ability, exceptional commercial acumen, and strong financial management skills.
- Exceptional transformational leadership skills with a track record of mentoring senior leaders and driving cultural change.
- Fluency in English is essential; professional proficiency in French or Swahili is highly advantageous.
