For our client, a leading Tier-1 mining contractor based in West Africa, we are seeking a highly skilled Mining Project Manager. This pivotal role is essential for providing operational and strategic leadership across multiple production sites.
About the Role:
The Mining Project Manager will assume full responsibility for the planning, coordination, and execution of all mining operations to achieve company objectives. This senior leadership position involves managing the key client relationship, navigating complex industrial relations, and directing all human, mechanical, and material resources to ensure production targets are met safely and efficiently. The role operates on 6:2 or 10:3 FIFO rosterand offers a highly competitive net expatriate salary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assume full operational management responsibility for daily mining activities, including planning, execution, and optimisation across all production centres.
- Act as the primary interface with the client, managing the relationship to ensure contractual obligations and client expectations are met.
- Plan, coordinate, and control all human resources, equipment, and material supply to ensure operations meet production targets efficiently.
- Oversee long-term mine planning and integrate robust short-term scheduling and control across all departmental activities.
- Manage key subcontractor agreements and oversee the preparation and strict adherence to annual operating and capital budgets.
- Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring all operations comply with HSEC standards and that operational risks are proactively managed.
- Effectively manage industrial relations and lead negotiations with union representatives to ensure operational continuity.
- Lead, mentor, and organise a large, multi-disciplinary team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree (BSc/BEng) in Mining Engineering, Geology, Geotechnics, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in a hands-on operational leadership or Project Management role, ideally from a mining contractor background.
- Proven experience managing the client relationship from the service-provider side is essential.
- Exceptional leadership, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the resilience to manage complex stakeholder and industrial relations issues.
- Demonstrated experience managing and negotiating with a unionised workforce in a challenging operational environment.
- Strong knowledge of contract management, budget preparation, and practical risk assessment in a mining context.
- Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD is required.
- Fluency in English is essential; professional fluency in French is strongly preferred.
