Mining Infrastructure Maintenance Manager (Underground)

For our client, a world-class copper producer based in francophone Africa, we are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Manager for their Mining Infrastructure. This is a senior leadership role responsible for the maintenance and reliability of all critical fixed infrastructure supporting a large-scale underground mining operation.
About the Role:
The Engineering Manager will establish and lead a best-practice engineering division focused on mining infrastructure. This role is accountable for ensuring all pumping systems, electrical reticulation networks, and conveyor systems are installed, maintained, and operated safely and efficiently to ensure business continuity. Reporting to a senior engineering executive, the successful candidate will manage a team of engineers and maintenance planners to deliver exceptional asset performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the engineering and maintenance functions for all underground mining infrastructure, including dewatering systems, power reticulation, and conveyors.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive asset management and maintenance strategy to achieve and exceed equipment availability targets (e.g., >85%).
- Provide engineering leadership for the design, construction, and commissioning of new infrastructure projects such as pump stations and power systems.
- Manage and control the departmental budget, covering both planned/unplanned maintenance and capital expenditure for new projects.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-disciplinary team, including Senior Engineers and Maintenance Planners, to build a high-performing division.
- Manage relationships with key contractors, suppliers, and OEMs to ensure effective service delivery and project execution.
- Champion a Zero Harm culture, ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance are maintained across all activities.
Requirements:
- A degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is highly preferred (N6 or equivalent is the minimum).
- A minimum of 10 years of practical engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
- Essential experience within a large-scale mining environment; underground exposure is highly advantageous.
- Strong technical knowledge of the design, installation, and maintenance of high-capacity pumping systems, electrical reticulation, and conveyor systems.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing asset management and maintenance strategies for fixed plant infrastructure.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing engineering teams, contractors, and significant budgets.
- Fluency in English is essential; professional proficiency in French or Swahili is highly advantageous.
