For our client, a world-class copper producer based in francophone Africa, we are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Manager for their Concentrator. This is a senior leadership role responsible for the entire engineering function across multiple large-scale processing plants.
About the Role:
The Engineering Manager will establish, implement, and manage a best-practice engineering division, operationalising strategy by managing a team of senior engineers and specialists. This role is accountable for both the ongoing maintenance and reliability of existing concentrators and providing key engineering leadership for the design and construction of new plants. Reporting to a senior engineering executive, the successful candidate will ensure business continuity and drive operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the entire engineering function for the concentrator, including mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control, and reliability engineering.
- Develop and implement the maintenance and asset management strategy to achieve and exceed critical plant availability targets (e.g., >92%).
- Provide key engineering leadership for the full lifecycle of new concentrator projects, from feasibility and design through to construction and commissioning.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-disciplinary team of senior engineers and maintenance planners, driving a culture of performance and accountability.
- Manage and control significant CAPEX and OPEX budgets, ensuring the efficient use of resources and driving cost-reduction initiatives.
- Manage key relationships with OEMs, contractors, and internal departments (Mining, Logistics, Finance) to ensure seamless operational integration.
- Champion a Zero Harm culture, ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance are maintained across the division.
Requirements:
- A degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is highly preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior engineering or maintenance management role.
- Essential experience within a large-scale mineral processing plant (concentrator), preferably in copper or base metals.
- Proven experience in the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and design through to construction and commissioning of processing plants.
- Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering and maintenance teams in a complex operational environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of reliability engineering, asset management strategies, and maintenance planning for heavy fixed plant equipment.
- Fluency in English is essential; professional proficiency in French or Swahili is highly advantageous.
