Operations Director – (Residential West Africa)

For our client based in Anglophone Africa, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Operations Director to oversee and lead this Junior Mining Company’s Operations during a crucial stage in their development. This role is integral to the exploration and development of mines for a variety of base and precious metals as well as rare earths. The Operations Director will also assist in overseeing the construction and operation of multiple processing plants. This position is critical to driving the company’s success in a competitive and evolving industry.
Due to the importance of this role, we are looking for somebody who will be happy to join on a residential basis – although there is flexibility on the amount of travel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategic operational plans in line with the company’s vision and objectives.
- Coordinate exploration, mine development, and oversee the operation of processing plants.
- Manage team recruitment, training, and performance, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with national and international environmental, health, and safety standards in all mining and processing activities.
- Manage multiple project timelines and budgets, and oversee procurement processes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government officials, regulatory bodies, local communities, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in the mining industry, with at least 5 years in a senior operational leadership role.
- Advanced degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Metallurgy, or related field; an MBA is advantageous.
- Extensive knowledge of modern mining practices, mineral processing, and environmental management.
- Experience managing large-scale mining projects in emerging markets, particularly Africa.
- Proven track record in strategic planning, team management, and project execution.
